For September 2007

When you return to campus, you should start thinking about art you want to see and Dayton happens to have some exciting opportunities. The members show at DVAC will be up until August 18. It features our own Erin Holscher Almazon, who was also granted a Juror's Award of Merit. Luckily, since you might not have time to catch that, Sean Wilkinson, the founder of UD's photo department, will show a 30 year retrospective of his photography in DVAC September 10 through October 27. He will give an artist talk in the gallery on September 13. It will be very informative night for any young artist.

Also, some exciting work is being shown in the Regional Artists Gallery of the DAI. Tom Davie is showing interesting layered prints of fellow parishoners through December 2.

And, as always, feel free to contact any of us graduates about anything...we're still figuring it out, too. Julie Jones has the adjunct photo position at Stivers School for the Arts. She's a good resource since she is currently in Dayton. Ryan Feeney is on his way to get his MFA at UMass. Curtis Mann is finishing his MFA at Columbia College in Chicago and making a name for himself. Rodney Godek is at the University of Delaware. Meghan Brown in moving to Maine to work at a Leadership Camp. And I'm living in Pittsburgh working at a gallery.

Good luck this school year!

Exposure

Flyers were distributed today to advertise for the Urban Nights Student Art Show. Hopefully people are eager to show off work from the end of the year, summer, or first few weeks!

We will be having our first meeting Tuesday September 5th at 6:30 in the Library Gallery. Bring your submissions, sign up to help, join the club, hear what we've planned.

I wanted to invite you all to the Faculty Art Show opening at the Rike Center Gallery. Thursday night, 7-9pm. Hope to see you there!

Overexposed & Underdeveloped

OE & UD begins their blogging outlet...

As the summer approaches its end, the photo club officers are brainstorming goals to set and activities to do for the upcoming semester. We already have things planned!

Friday, September 15 we will be hosting a student art show in Sean Wright's Cannery Apartment during the Downtown Dayton Urban Nights. Plan on bringing some of your summer work back to Dayton to display. We will be collecting work September 4-8th.

Don't forget to check out the Aperture at 50 show at the DAI. All those images you remember learning about in History of Photography are there in all their silver gelatin glory.
